The Ashes 2023 will be held in England from June 16 to July 31. The five games will be played at Edgbaston, Lord’s, Headingley, Old Trafford, and The Oval, which are all in England. The team led by Pat Cummins is the current Ashes champion. They won the last match 4-0.
England’s top batter, Joe Root, said before the five-match series that he is ready to play against arch-rivals Australia and will try to help captain Ben Stokes and the rest of his teammates. The 32-year-old also said that in the next game, he will have a very different senior role on the team.
“It will be nice to just go play the game and try to help Ben and the other guys in any way I can. Root told ESPNCricinfo, “I’d like to play a slightly different senior role in the team.”
He went on to say that you want to stand out and do well in big games, and the Ashes are just another chance to do that.
“These big games and big series are always a lot of fun to be a part of. You want them to step up and play well, and this is just another chance for them to do that,” he said.
The last time England won the Ashes, in 2015, Root was named the Player of the Series and got the Compton-Miller Medal. The 32-year-old made 460 runs at an average of 57.50, which helped England win the urn. It was probably the best of his six Ashes so far. Notably, it was the last time the star batter met Australia without being captain, and it was also the last time he hit one of his three Test hundreds against the Kangaroos.
The team led by Ben Stokes just beat Ireland by 10 wickets in a one-off Test at the Lord’s Cricket Ground. Root was very important for England. In the first game, he scored 56 runs off 59 balls, which is a strike rate of 94.92. India, led by Rohit Sharma, will play Australia in the 2023 ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final, which starts on June 7 at London’s The Oval.
