Ishant Sharma, a veteran pacer for Delhi Capitals (DC), has taken his first wicket since returning to action after 717 days in the ongoing IPL 2023 match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). In match 28 of the league, the two franchises squared off at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
The host team’s captain, David Warner, won the toss and elected to field first. KKR’s innings got off to a poor start, as the team was only able to score 35 runs in the powerplay (overs 1-6) while losing three wickets.
Midway through the innings, veteran pacer Ishant Sharma struck the decisive blow against the opposing captain, Nitish Rana, for only four runs off seven deliveries. Mukesh Kumar snared Nitish’s drive to mid-on with relative ease.
Ishant Sharma took his first wicket of the season and his first wicket since returning to action after 717 days. For the uninitiated, the pacer last appeared in three games during the 2021 season, claiming no wickets.
DC hired Ishant Sharma for 50 Lakh INR.
Prior to the match against KKR, Ishant had taken 73 wickets in 93 IPL matches and played a complete season for Capitals in 2019. In 2019, the 34-year-old took 13 wickets in 13 matches for the franchise based in Delhi.
In reliance on his expertise, DC acquired the veteran pacer for INR 50 Lakh during the 2023 season’s auction. Ishant would therefore seek to conduct his trade for the franchise by putting forth his best effort and delivering in the game’s crucial moments.
David Warner and the rest of DC have lost all five of their matches thus far in the lucrative T20 competition. The franchise will attempt to earn their first points of the season against KKR at home in order to keep their prospects for a top-four finish alive.
