Litton Das, the wicketkeeper-batsman for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), has returned home due to a familial medical emergency. He is likely to miss the forthcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) matches for KKR. In addition, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has issued Litton Das a “No Objection Certificate” until May 4, which could prevent him from participating in future matches.
The Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batsman, who joined the squad after a few matches, has only featured in KKR’s match against Delhi Capitals (DC) in the current IPL season. As a wicketkeeper, he compounded his poor performance by missing two crucial stumping opportunities, enabling DC to capitalize and turn the match in their favor.
“This morning, due to a familial medical emergency, he had to fly back to Dhaka. “There are currently no updates regarding his return,” a team official said on Friday.
The two-time champions acquired the 28-year-old at the IPL 2023 mini-auction for a base price of INR 50 lakh. With three victories, the Nitish Rana-led squad is currently seventh in the IPL Points Table. They must recover in their remaining contests in order to remain in playoff contention.
By 21 runs, the Kolkata Knight Riders defeated the Royal Challengers Bangalore.
KKR finally won an IPL 2023 match on April 26, defeating Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 21 runs at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru after suffering four consecutive defeats. RCB’s stand-in captain, Virat Kohli, won the toss and elected to field first. However, the decision backfired as the RCB bowlers failed to contain the KKR batsmen and allowed them to readily score.
With the help of opener Jason Roy’s (56 off 29) quick half-century and captain Nitish Rana’s (48 off 21) superb cameo, Kolkata amassed 200 runs in 20 overs. Notably, Rana was dropped twice as a result of poor fielding by the host team. During RCB’s pursuit, KKR bowlers restricted the home team to 179/8, resulting in a 21-run victory for the visitors.
Virat Kohli (54 runs off 37 balls) guided his team from the front while the other batters failed to support him. Only Mahipal Lomror (34 runs off 18 balls) and Dinesh Karthik (22 runs off 18 balls) attempted to occupy the crease in vain. Since 2016, the Knights have not suffered a defeat at Chinnaswamy Stadium.
