In the current season of the Indian Premier League, star fast bowler Umran Malik only played in seven games for Sunrisers Hyderabad before he was cut. Notably, even though Aiden Markram’s team lost after taking that step, the team management still doesn’t trust him with the ball, and he has been sitting on the bench for the last few games.
When asked why, head coach Brian Lara said it was because of his bad form, so things are not looking good for the pacer.
When talking about this, former India all-rounder Yusuf Pathan didn’t hold back when he said that the team management was wrong for not supporting Umran this season. He also said that the player did everything he could in the last season, but the team got all the credit. This season, when he’s having trouble, SRH hasn’t helped him, but instead taken him out of the starting lineup.
“Umran Malik did a great job last year, and you all took credit for it. But he needed your help this year. But did he get that? Was he put to good use? He is a young bowler who represents the future of India. And he has done well for India every time he has played for the team. Yusuf Pathan told ESPNcricinfo, “You haven’t used him right, and the same can be said about many other players in the team.”
“You should know when to stand behind your team. If you talk about Abhishek Sharma, you used him as an opening last year, and he did well. But this year, you changed where he hit and even put him on the bench at one point. You’re supposed to mess with the other team’s head, not your own!” Added the 40-year-old.
Sunrisers Hyderabad’s last two games will be against Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians. Now that they are already out of the running for the playoffs, the team can give guys like Malik and Mayank Agarwal, who are not in the XI, a chance.
