Hardik Pandya, captain of the Gujarat Titans, provided a significant health update on pacer Yash Dayal, stating that he may not participate for the remainder of the IPL 2023 season. Notably, the pacer last played for Titans on April 9, in a high-stakes match against the Kolkata Knight Riders.
Dayal was tasked with defending 29 runs in the final over against KKR for the unseeded. However, Rinku Singh hit five consecutive sixes off the left-arm pacer during his flawless innings of 48*(21). In doing so, Rinku single-handedly rescued KKR from the brink of defeat in the contest.
Dayal was devastated after failing to defend 29 runs in the final over and has not played in an IPL match since. Hardik Pandya, captain of GT, explained his exclusion from the team and provided significant health updates. Due to his deteriorating health, he may not feature in the playing eleven for the remainder of the season, he added.
“I cannot affirm it (that he will play again this season). After that game, he fell ill and lost 7-8 kilograms. During that time, a viral infection spread, and due to the stress he had endured, his condition is currently insufficient for him to take the field. Someone’s loss is ultimately someone else’s benefit. “It will be quite some time before we see him on the field,” Hardik said in an interview with Star Sports.
In his absence, Gujarat have relied on veteran pacer Mohit Sharma, who has excelled since his return to the Premier League. Mohit has appeared in five matches and contributed significantly to the team by taking six wickets.
Gujarat are presently second in the IPL 2023 standings after a convincing victory over Mumbai Indians on April 25. Hardik Pandya and co. won their fifth game of the season and have accumulated 10 points in seven games. They will be aiming to maintain their momentum in their next game.
