The 16th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 started off to a rough start for the two-time defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders, as Nitish Rana and co. fell to the Shikhar Dhawan-led Punjab Kings in their opening match. Nevertheless, they staged a comeback and won their next two games before losing their next four. The team is currently ninth in the standings with four points from seven games, and their next match is against the formidable Royal Challengers Bangalore. However, KKR head coach Chandrakant Pandit believes that his team will strive to improve in the second half of IPL 2023.
“I would say that this is the beginning of the second half.” By winning the first game, we have already defeated them. This is the conviction we must have. In a KKR-posted YouTube video, he stated, “I am confident that just one spark in our team will propel us forward.
People have raised their hands, not because we have not played fine cricket. Chandrakant Pandit
Pandit, who has a reputation for winning large on the domestic circuit, would be eager to do the same with Kolkata and lead the team to its third IPL championship. The former Indian cricketer believes that maintaining a positive outlook in the upcoming matches will help the team end its four-game losing streak.
“One must be extremely optimistic. The way I currently view this tournament is that it will begin for us tomorrow. And this is the perspective from which I view it. Obviously, a distinct environment has been created, and we should not forget the confidence we had in the first half,” Chandrakant Pandit said. “It’s not that we haven’t played decent cricket. Therefore, each individual participant has demonstrated that he is prepared to assume responsibility.”
