After battling to a victory against the Kolkata Knight Riders in a low-scoring contest in Delhi, Delhi Capitals ultimately made their IPL 2023 debut. To the relief of the coaching staff, the home team eventually crossed the finish line after struggling to reach a modest goal. Sourav Ganguly, a former Indian captain and the director of cricket for Delhi, expressed his relief after his team’s triumph and compared it to his 1996 Test debut at Lord’s.
Nitish Rana’s men gave the host team a meager target of 128 runs, but it seemed doable as David Warner, the skipper of Delhi, got off to a quick start. After the powerplay, however, the Delhi innings spiraled out of control, necessitating a last-over thriller in which Axar Patel had to save his team’s face.
The coaching staff for Delhi, under the direction of head coach Ricky Ponting and director of cricket Sourav Ganguly, were happy with their first victory of the competition. The latter compared it to one of his personal milestones. The experience was comparable to the first runs he scored for India in Test cricket, according to the former Indian captain, who made his Test debut in 1996.
“I’m excited to start. When they were under pressure to get their first points of the season, I was sitting in the dugout and comparing it to my first Test match 25 years earlier. After the low-scoring game against KKR, Ganguly stated, “We were on the luckier side today.
We must reflect on where we are now in order to determine how we can improve: Ganguly
While the bowlers performed admirably in the first innings, limiting a stellar KKR batting order to a subpar score, it was the batting that almost cost them the game. Ganguly hoped that the hitters will have an easier time against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Hyderabad due to the favorable batting conditions.
We bowled well earlier this season as well. But the batting is the issue. We must reflect on where we are now in order to determine how we can improve. We put in a lot of effort to help the boys get back in shape. Be it Mitch Marsh, Manish, or Prithvi. They have been around for a while and have been significant players for their respective teams. Tomorrow is our day off before we head to Hyderabad, where, historically speaking, the batting surface should be favorable.
